When it comes to machinery, it is supposed to face the problems. Looking into the very minor problems of people having riding lawn mowers, we put an effort to make a research why the riding lawn mowers are emitting smoke. After a thorough research on the causes of lawn mowing smoking, it happened to be the crux that the riding lawn mowers come up with the smoking problems of different nature. Either the smoke being emitted by those mowers is blue, white or black. Behind each effect, there is a different cause. Like what? The reasons behind each category of smoke is different. This article is meant to keep you tuned about the causes of these problems along their fixes.
Riding Lawn Mower emits white Smoke
A general article is already there on the reason against the most frequent query over the internet like “why is my mower blowing white smoke?”. This problem occurs because a user’s less knowledge about the best use of machinery.
Like what? It can be very ridiculous that one adds oil in the gas tank which is only supposed to accept the gas as a fuel. On the other hand, oil is meant to keep the machinery smooth and ultimately optimizes it usability and uses another duct there in the engine. As a result of this blunder, either the oil clogs the carburettor and your mower starts snorting while taking a start or it doesn’t even take a start. In this scenario, petrol or diesel what is meant to burn, is burning along the engine oil. The burning of the oil will lead to the emission of white smoke.
Make your fuel tank empty thoroughly and add fresh fuel in the tank. Now, it won’t be emitting white smoke and do remember to add the fuel and oil in their specified portions.
Secondly, the most common problem the mower users are facing is the over fueling of
Machinery is meant to perform at its best when it comes with all its essential fulfilled in a balanced way. Manufacturers do mark the bottle or duct which is meant to carry oil up to which it needs to be filled. If you fill it over the marked, it would be causing issue. Lawn mower if run in this situation, may lead to the serious problems of the engine.
Fixing is too easy to learn something new for it. You are only meant to drain the extra oil which has been poured into the oil duct. It is fixed now. But, it is hard enough to drain the extra oil from it. There are two ways to overcome this issue. Use an oil drainer for this, it is the best way so the extra oil can be saved. In the other situation, you lose that extra portion of oil because you are supposed to make the engine but make sure it should not perform its operations meanwhile. This way can be time consuming, pollution-oriented and costly way. So avoid it and use an oil extractor to save extra oil.
Riding lawn mower emits black smoke
Like the issue of lawn mower emitting white smoke, mowers do face the issue of emitting black and blue smoke as well. As the issue is something else, the causes would also differ in nature as well.
Air Filter is Dusty
Carburettor is meant to be accepting part of filtered fuel either petrol or diesel and filtered air which it processes to contribute to the better performance of engine. Here in this scenario, the carburettor is taking the filtered input of air which passes through the air filter. In case, the air filter is dusty and does not produce enough air to contribute in the ignition process of the fuel. Now, the air is not taking place in the combustion process. In this case the mower is supposed to be emitting black smoke.
Fixing the issue lies in the part of the issue which cause the black smoke. So, get the air filter out from its place and make it clean. Now place it at its place, it won’t be emitting black smoke now. In some cases , the air filter has become porous enough that it lets the unfiltered air penetrate into the carburettor, it will also cause the issue of carburettor’s blockage. So, in this case you are advised to install a new air filter. So that you may not face issue of any kind.
Reminder: If the air filter is only dirty without any torn pores, cleaning of the air filter will optimize the usability of your mower.
Worn-out head gasket/ ring pistons
When things get old, they lose their efficiency. Same is the case with the the different part of engines which cause blue and black smoke. As a whole the purpose of head gasket and ring pistons is keeping the combustion chamber sealed that the minimum of the gases go into the crankcase. Whenever, the head gasket and ring pistons get worn and don’t seal those gases originating in the chamber. Now, these gases would make their way to come out. In this case, they make their way out through crankcase. The more the head gasket and ring pistons go inefficient, the more the smoke will be emitting through the crankcase.
In this regard, the fixing is somehow technical and you must have to tend to some professional who will predict and fix the problems efficiently. In short the head gasket and ring piston would get changed by the mechanic to keep the combustion chamber sealed. When it is done, the mower will start working smooth again in its regular way.
